Mastering Talisman with Benjamin Joubert
After a long search for the right person to give Talisman its final sonic touch, John Shamir — drummer, arranger and producer of the album — ultimately chose to entrust the mastering to Benjamin Joubert.
The right choice
Benjamin works from his own Paris studio, Le Biduloscope, where he also specializes in analogue mastering. This was an essential part of our vision.
From the very beginning, Talisman was conceived as a return to a more organic way of making music. No MIDI, no plug-ins — only real instruments, carefully recorded to preserve every nuance of the performances. It felt only natural that the mastering should follow the same philosophy.
A rewarding collaboration
Working with Benjamin was both inspiring and enriching. He immediately understood John’s artistic vision and brought out the full depth of the recordings while respecting their natural balance.
The experience also allowed John to dive even deeper into the subtle art of analogue mastering — a fascinating craft where the smallest details can profoundly shape the emotional impact of a piece of music.
The sound we had imagined
Today, I’m genuinely happy with the final result. Talisman sounds exactly as we had imagined it: organic, intimate and alive.
At the end of August, John and I will register the works with SACEM to protect them. It will be the final step before the moment I’ve been waiting for for so long: finally sharing Talisman with you.
